Originally from Albany, Georgia, Stephen grew up in a broken home where church attendance wasn’t a priority. He came to faith in Christ as a teenager and felt a call to the ministry soon thereafter. He married his high school sweetheart Rebecca and God has blessed them with 5 children (Cade 13, Cole 11, Casen 6, Carrington 6, and Caylor 2).
He has been in full time ministry for 17 years where he has served churches in Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. Passionate about teaching God’s Word in a way that connects people to Christ, he believes that the local church is God’s plan A to reach the World. He is passionate about sharing his faith, making disciples, and equipping others to do the same. He has his Master of Divinity from Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary.
SPENCER JOHNSONPASTOR OF ADMINISTRATION / SENIOR ADULTS
Spencer married his high school sweetheart, Karen back in January 1972, so they have enjoyed many years of serving the Lord together. He surrendered to the call of God on his life at the age of 27 and spent his first year of ministry in Alabama. He returned to his home church in south Atlanta where he served in various support roles for 15 years. It was then that God burdened his heart to be a lead pastor so he spent 22 years in Brunswick, GA fulfilling that call of God. In 2017 he and Karen moved back to the south Atlanta area where his desire was to support a young pastor in a growing and thriving ministry. After visiting several good churches, God fulfilled that desire as a local businessman enthusiastically invited them to “his church”, Oak Hil Baptist Church, in November, 2017. After one visit, they knew this was the church God wanted them to attend. Nine months later, God opened the door of opportunity for him to serve as a Pastor of Administration and Senior Adults.
Spencer and Karen have four children and 15 grandchildren, 7 of which have been adopted out of the DCFS system. They love serving both students and adults of all ages and are passionate about the ministry of Oak Hill Baptist Church.
